Prince Harry and Meghan’s Departure from Royal Duties in 2020 Deepened Tensions
Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall are reportedly taking on key roles in attempting to reconcile Meghan Markle with the Royal Family, according to a royal commentator.
As cousins of Prince Harry, Beatrice and Zara are well aware of the strained relationship between Harry, Meghan, and the monarchy, which has deteriorated over recent years.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and have since publicly criticized various members of the monarchy through interviews, documentaries, and Harry’s autobiography, Spare.
Despite these ongoing tensions, Beatrice and Zara are said to be committed to mending the rift and improving relations between the Sussexes and the Royal Family. Royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner told Fox, "Beatrice and Zara both want the Royal Family to be seen in the best possible light."
He added, "Both have strong values and common sense. They are out of the maelstrom of William and Harry and are good at building bridges and calming situations. This could be an effective force in bringing the brothers back together and finding a way forward with Meghan [Markle] and the children."
The relationship between the Sussexes and senior members of the monarchy has significantly worsened, particularly after the release of Harry's autobiography, Spare. Following its publication, King Charles requested that the couple vacate their royal residence, Frogmore Cottage, which they officially left in July 2023.
Since then, Prince Harry has made several trips to London, but he has stayed in hotels rather than at any Royal Family residence. Meanwhile, Meghan has not visited the UK since September 2022, citing security concerns as a primary reason for her absence.
