Kate Middleton, who has maintained a brave face during public appearances, is reportedly going through one of the toughest phases of her life as she battles cancer, with several challenges on the road to recovery.
A close friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales has revealed the couple’s ongoing struggle during Catherine’s health crisis, stating, "It’s been a really difficult year for the entire family."
Royal correspondent Rebecca English, citing the couple’s close friend, reported that Kate is not expected to return to royal duties anytime soon. Despite appearing happy in a recent video, the friend noted that William and Kate are experiencing "the toughest year of their lives together."
"The direction is positive [but] there will not be great change [in terms of her public profile] after Sunday night, and no one is giving a timescale for her return," the friend added.
With the extended royal family now on holiday at Balmoral and other locations, public appearances by Kate will likely be limited until well into September.
This news follows the release of a new video in which William and Kate thank Britain’s Olympic heroes for their achievements. In the clip, Kate appears tanned and relaxed, but as she recently acknowledged, she is not "out of the woods" yet.
In an article for the Mail, Rebecca English wrote that Kate’s preventative chemotherapy treatment is expected to continue throughout the summer, and possibly beyond, with her recovery ongoing for many months to come. Kate will continue to work privately and engage publicly as her health allows.
Kensington Palace may eventually provide guidance on what a return to a "more regular workload" could look like, but as of now, "they are absolutely not at that stage yet," according to a royal insider.
When asked if Kate’s recent appearances signal a return to royal duties, a source stated, "We are not there yet. It’s been a rough, rough time, a really difficult year for the entire family. And as she herself said, she is not out of the woods yet.
