The Princess of Wales was allegedly instructed by the King to reach out to Meghan Markle in an effort to "clear the air" following the explosive claims of royal racism made by Meghan during her interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the interview, Meghan revealed that a senior royal had expressed concerns about the skin tone of her and Harry's son, Prince Archie, a revelation that significantly deepened the rift between the Sussexes and the royal family.
According to an insider, Kate was compelled to make the call to Meghan at King Charles' request, after Omid Scobie's book Endgame brought renewed attention to the controversy by mentioning key royals. The source told In Touch Weekly that King Charles turned to Kate to act as a mediator after Prince William reportedly refused to engage.
"Kate agreed because she has always taken her royal duties seriously — she does what is asked of her," the insider explained. However, the experience was said to be emotionally taxing for Kate, as the outcome did not meet the hopes she and King Charles had.
Despite Kate's efforts, the tension between the royal family and the Sussexes appears to have reached a point where reconciliation may no longer be possible.
