Kate Middleton Resolves Major Regret Over Royal Title

Princess Kate Was Prepared to Relinquish Prestigious Role Due to 'Stress'

Kate Middleton faced significant turmoil while considering a major royal honour ultimately bestowed by King Charles.

Initially hesitant to accept the iconic title of Princess of Wales, previously held by Princess Diana, Princess Kate feared the accompanying stress.

An excerpt from Robert Jobson’s new book, Catherine, Princess of Wales, published by the Daily Mail, reveals that Kate was ready to decline the honour.

Jobson writes, “In marrying the elder son of Prince Charles, Catherine was aware she'd one day have to tread in her late mother-in-law's footsteps—but the prospect of becoming the Princess of Wales held little appeal.”

The author notes that Kate anticipated inevitable comparisons to Diana, whose tragic death evoked widespread anger and grief, and the stress that would ensue.

“The similarities and differences between the two women were dissected ad infinitum, and even discussed in the royal household,” Jobson continues.

At one point, the stress became so overwhelming that Kate considered following Queen Camilla’s path as Duchess of Cornwall.

Ultimately, Kate accepted the title, which has since become a source of immense popularity and public affection for her.
