Monarch’s Impressive Portfolio of Holiday Rentals Generates Significant Income
King Charles could potentially earn over £1 million each year by renting out royal properties to holidaymakers, according to a new study. The Royal Family’s extensive portfolio of historic homes and mansions, available for holiday rentals, plays a significant role in generating income for the monarchy.
Holiday lettings experts at Pikl Insurance estimate that the monarchy could be earning up to £118,775.85 per month, or approximately £1.4 million annually, from their rental properties. Even with potential cancellations factored in, the Royal Family is projected to net over £1.4 million each year.
The top four royal properties contributing to this income include Balmoral Castle, the Captain's House at the Castle of Mey, Restormel Manor, and Dumfries House. Balmoral Castle's cottages alone are estimated to generate £36,798.30 per month, even after accounting for cancellations.
The most lucrative of these properties is the 500-year-old Restormel Manor in Cornwall, which brings in an impressive £47,082 per month. Nestled in the scenic Fowey Valley, the estate offers four distinct areas for booking, along with six beautifully converted barns available to guests.
Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, adds an estimated £31,185.63 per month to the royal income, offering 25 rooms for holidaymakers. The Captain’s House at the Castle of Mey in the Scottish Highlands, though smaller, still contributes around £3,709.92 per month with the entire property available for rent.
Overall, these properties collectively help bolster the royal income, showcasing the financial potential of the monarchy’s extensive real estate portfolio.
