King Charles is compelled to make challenging decisions as the future of his monarchy faces significant threats.
The monarch, who has been undergoing cancer treatment for several months, is confronted with two major issues that jeopardise his rule, prompting him to take decisive action.
Recently, Charles cut off the funding for his disgraced brother, the Duke of York’s security, and is now preparing to evict him from the Royal Lodge, as reported by The Sun.
Despite the difficulty of the decision, it is not made out of malice but rather as a means to protect his reign, even if it involves downgrading his brother, according to royal commentator Lee Cohen.
“Unfortunately, the King faces two significant entitlement issues: the Sussexes and the Duke of York,” Cohen told GB News. “Does he really need these problems during a serious health crisis? It speaks to Charles's admirable qualities that he remains tolerant of the troublemakers in his family.”
Cohen highlighted that the monarch has been “generous to his brother, providing financial support,” but has concluded that the “best outcome” is for the Duke of York, who “doesn’t seem to require a larger house.”
“Currently, [Andrew] is unable to manage the upkeep of the Royal Lodge and cover security costs,” the expert explained. “Evicting Prince Andrew is not an act of cruelty. It’s a move to protect the monarchy's integrity and shield it from future harm.”
Additionally, the King is determined to send a clear message that “no member—regardless of their birthright—is above accountability.”
