King Charles to Grant New Powers to Prince Edward in a Strategic Move Against Prince Andrew

Monarch's Decision Aims to Reinforce Royal Duties and Address Family Tensions

King Charles III is reportedly planning to bestow a significant honour on his youngest brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, in what appears to be a deliberate move to address the ongoing challenges posed by non-working royals, Prince Andrew and Prince Harry. This decision follows the King’s increasing concern over the roles and responsibilities within the royal family, particularly amid his and Princess Catherine’s health issues.

Prince Edward, who was promoted to Duke of Edinburgh in 2023, has notably expanded his royal duties, undertaking 297 engagements that year, making him one of the most active members of the family. His dedication, along with that of his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, has impressed the King, leading to speculation that Charles may offer them Royal Lodge, a prominent property currently occupied by Prince Andrew.

According to royal commentator Richard Kay, despite past differences, King Charles has been deeply impressed by Edward and Sophie’s increased commitment since their elevation to Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. However, this potential relocation could stir family tensions, as Prince Andrew, who has resided at Royal Lodge since 2003, is reportedly resistant to moving, citing his long-term lease.

The King’s actions are seen as part of a broader strategy to reassert control and encourage greater responsibility among the royals, possibly including the reduction of Prince Andrew's royal privileges, such as his security detail, in an effort to streamline the roles of non-working royals within the family.
