Duchess of Sussex Advocates for Safe Digital Spaces During Colombia Tour
Meghan Markle appears to have taken inspiration from Princess Kate as she shared key parenting advice during her first day in Colombia.
At the Responsible Digital Future forum in Bogotá on Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex urged parents to take a 'responsible' role in creating safe online environments for their children.
Meghan noted the rise of cruelty in digital interactions, saying, "The digital age has almost created a culture where if you don’t have anything cruel to say, don't say anything at all." She advised, "If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all."
Addressing the role of adults in combating online negativity, Meghan emphasized, "As parents, global citizens, and digital citizens, we have the responsibility to model the behaviour we want our children to learn and the world we want them to grow up in."
This follows recent reports that Princess Kate has taken on the role of photographer for her children to shield them from media exploitation. Journalist Afua Hagan noted in OK! magazine that Kate, having witnessed the press's impact on Prince William, decided to take control by capturing her children's images herself.
