Duchess Prioritises Harmony by Steering Clear of Royal Drama
Meghan Markle, who previously made serious allegations against senior royals in her interview with Oprah Winfrey, seemed to hold back from revealing new details about her royal life during her and Prince Harry's latest joint interview.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared on CBS Sunday Morning to discuss their new initiative to support parents whose children have been affected by online harm. Meghan appeared to acquiesce to Prince Harry's decision to avoid commenting on the royal family, showing reluctance to divulge further details.
During the interview, the former Suits star, who turned 43 on Sunday (Aug 4, 2024), reflected on her past suicidal thoughts, which she first disclosed in a March 2021 interview with Oprah, where she admitted that she "just didn't want to be alive anymore." However, she refrained from directly criticising the royals this time, seemingly aiming to prevent any new drama and to keep her husband free from tension.
Anchor Jane Pauley attempted to coax Meghan into sharing more about her experiences as a royal, but Meghan appeared to resist, respecting her husband and his family's wishes. Pauley started by saying, "You had an experience that connects you to these families," referencing Meghan's earlier comments on self-harm thoughts.
Pauley noted Meghan's gesture of placing her hand on Prince Harry's knee, commenting, "I see you touch your husband's hand in just the way I knew that you would be looking after each other." She acknowledged Meghan's discomfort with the line of questioning, saying, "I see you were uncomfortable with my even going there."
Meghan responded, "I understand why you are, though. I wasn't expecting it, but I understand why you are. Because there is a through-line, I think."
