King Charles and Queen Camilla's Summer Stay at Balmoral Overlaps with Family Tensions
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly striving to maintain a calm atmosphere and avoid further disagreements during their stay in Scotland. The couple, who are among the early guests at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, where King Charles and Queen Camilla are enjoying their summer break, are navigating a delicate family situation.
Tensions have arisen as King Charles, 75, engages in discussions with his younger brother regarding the future of Royal Lodge, Andrew's long-time residence in Windsor. The King, who has been covering the costs of private security at the property since Andrew's official protection was withdrawn in 2022, is urging the Duke of York to move to a smaller, more affordable home. As part of this plan, the King intends to disband the 10-member security team currently assigned to Royal Lodge by autumn.
Friends of Andrew and Ferguson suggest that the couple is avoiding confrontation with the King, particularly during their time together at Balmoral, in order to prevent escalating tensions. The Duke and Duchess of York had hoped to eventually pass Royal Lodge on to their daughters. However, the King's actions indicate that this future is now uncertain.
