Harry Won't Bring Meghan to the UK, Plans Colombia Trip Despite Security Concerns
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are under fire for planning a trip to Colombia, despite official travel warnings. Royal author Angela Levin criticised the couple on GB News, pointing out the inconsistency between Harry’s security concerns and their South American plans.
Harry, 39, has insisted he won't return to the UK with Meghan unless they receive state-funded security due to fears of "knife or acid attacks." Levin questioned the logic of this stance given their intention to visit Colombia, where the UK Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to certain areas.
“Colombia is dangerous at the moment,” Levin remarked, citing incidents of kidnappings and extortion. She accused Harry of attempting to manipulate King Charles by claiming security concerns as the reason for avoiding the UK while planning a trip to a risky country. Levin suggested that Harry’s demands for top-tier protection, reserved for senior royals, are unrealistic. “He would be well protected, but not at the highest level reserved for Camilla, Charles, William, and Catherine,” she added.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to Colombia by Vice President Francia Marquez and are expected to visit later this year. This will be their second official tour of 2024, following their visit to Nigeria in May, where Harry met injured service personnel and Meghan co-hosted a Women in Leadership event with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
