Duke of Sussex's Actions and Statements Deepen Rift with Senior Royals
Prince Harry's relationship with senior members of the royal family has significantly worsened since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, parted ways with the monarchy in 2020 and relocated to the United States after a brief period in Canada.
Since moving to California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made several critical remarks about Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton through interviews and Harry's memoir, Spare.
Royal expert and historian Simon Heffer has weighed in on Harry's current stance and actions, stating, "Harry seems to have strained relations with his brother and sister-in-law. Given that Kate is likely the closest to a saint in the royal family at the moment, it's not favourable PR for him."
Heffer told GB News, "His brother has faced significant challenges, his wife has been unwell, and his father has experienced health issues. The Prince of Wales has managed to maintain his composure. People are aware that Harry hasn't been supportive. It's one thing to leave and stay quiet, as the Duke of Windsor did."
Criticising the Sussexes' approach, Heffer added, "It's another to leave and create disturbances, give interviews, make public appearances, and frequently appear in the press. He and his wife clearly thrive on publicity. They are a brand, an act, and like all brands and acts, they require the oxygen of publicity."
Heffer further remarked, "That's what he's pursuing now. This attitude will always complicate matters for the rest of the royal family."
Addressing Harry and Meghan's supporters, Heffer explained, "I understand he needs to earn a living, but no one forced him into this situation. He didn't have to leave the Royal Family. It was evident that his father, in particular, wanted him to stay. There was a significant role for him. He was very popular with the public. Since his marriage six years ago, something has changed."
The commentator elaborated, "I'm not privy to his private thoughts or the inner workings of his marriage, but something seems to have turned him against his family and the concept of royalty."
These insights follow Meghan and Harry's latest joint interview amid the health challenges faced by King Charles and Kate Middleton, who are both undergoing cancer treatment.
