Prince William's Jewellery Ban Surprises Meghan Markle

Prince William's Jewellery Ban Surprises Meghan Markle

Duchess Shocked as Royal Restrictions Prevent Wearing Diana's Pieces

Meghan Markle, who married Prince Harry in May 2018 at St George's Chapel, was reportedly banned by Prince William from wearing Princess Diana's jewellery.

The Duchess of Sussex looked stunning on her wedding day in a Givenchy dress, accessorised with the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara and simple jewellery. Despite various rumours leading up to the royal wedding, Meghan did not wear any pieces from the collection of Harry and William's late mother, Princess Diana, during the ceremony, according to a new report.

Prince William, who proposed to Kate Middleton with Diana's engagement ring, was reportedly uneasy about his brother's decision to marry the former Suits actress. He is said to have advised Harry to "cool the relationship" to allow Meghan time to adjust to royal life before fully committing.

Royal author Robert Jobson, in his new biography of the Princess of Wales, wrote: "William, still concerned by the match, even sought assurances from the Queen that his brother’s bride-to-be would not wear any jewellery in the collection once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, even though his wife Catherine had been allowed to wear some, which would be due to her rank."

Despite these initial restrictions, Meghan has worn several pieces from Diana's collection since her wedding. She wore a pair of butterfly studs, previously owned by Diana, during her first public appearance in Australia after announcing her pregnancy. Meghan's engagement ring also features two small stones from Princess Diana's collection. At the 2022 Invictus Games, the Duchess of Sussex wore a gold Cartier Tank watch, which has long been speculated to have been inherited from Diana, though this remains unconfirmed.
