Princess Anne’s Birthday Highlights a Historically Frosty Relationship with Queen Camilla
As Princess Anne marks her 74th birthday, her brother, King Charles, will undoubtedly extend warm wishes. The Princess Royal has been a loyal supporter of Charles since his ascent to the throne, actively participating in numerous royal engagements alongside him.
However, her relationship with Queen Camilla has reportedly been less than smooth over the years. According to royal expert Angela Levin, Camilla initially found Anne’s demeanor somewhat frosty and challenging to navigate. Anne was also reportedly skeptical about Camilla receiving the title of Queen Consort and once made the blunt prediction that "Camilla will never be a true queen."
Camilla, who was crowned Queen alongside King Charles on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, has a complex and storied past. Before her marriage to Charles, she was married to Andrew Parker-Bowles, with whom she has two children: Tom Parker-Bowles and Laura Lopes.
Interestingly, Princess Anne was romantically linked to Andrew Parker-Bowles in the 1970s. However, due to her position within the Royal Family and the role of the monarch as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, a marriage between Anne and Parker-Bowles was "out of the question," Levin notes.
