Princess Kate has candidly discussed what she described as her most challenging public appearance alongside Meghan Markle, revealing this to a key royal figure.
In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, royal author Robert Jobson claims that the walkabout with the Duchess of Sussex following Queen Elizabeth II's death was particularly difficult for Princess Kate.
After the Queen's passing in September 2022, Prince William reportedly extended an invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan to join him and Kate in inspecting the floral tributes and well-wishes left by royal fans. This marked the first public appearance of the former "Fab Four" since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Meghan alleged that Kate made her cry during her wedding preparations.
Jobson writes, "Picking up the phone to Harry, he [William] suggested that they and their wives put on a show of unity for the sake of their late grandmother by viewing the floral tributes at Windsor together. Harry accepted."
He adds, "The resulting images suggested they'd all slipped back into their Fab Four routine, but Catherine later admitted to a member of the Royal Family that such was the extent of ill-feeling between the couples, the walkabout had been the hardest thing she'd ever had to do."
It is worth noting that Harry and Meghan left the royal family in 2020. Since their high-profile departure, the couple has frequently made headlines for their controversial statements about senior royal figures.
