Revelations of Prince William's 'Pretend Engagement' with Jecca Craig

Jecca Craig Was Among the Guests at William and Kate's 2011 Wedding

Before Kate Middleton became a central figure in Prince William's life, he was reportedly involved with another young woman, Jecca Craig, with whom he allegedly had a "pretend engagement."

Prince William first crossed paths with Kate Middleton in 2001 while both were studying at St Salvator's Hall at the University of St Andrews. Their friendship blossomed into an on-and-off romance, leading to their engagement in October 2010 and their wedding in April 2011, according to reports by the Mirror.

However, prior to his relationship with Kate, William was linked to Jecca Craig, a childhood friend. During their teenage years, the pair grew close, with William spending part of his gap year on Jecca’s family estate in Kenya.

Despite claims from courtiers that they were merely friends, rumours about their relationship continued. Jecca was present at William's 21st birthday celebration in the UK, where Kate Middleton was also in attendance.

Although privately involved with Kate, William publicly declared himself single and devoted considerable attention to Jecca during the party. Kate, invited as a friend, was seated away from the main festivities. Despite this, there was no tension between the two women; Jecca later attended William and Kate's wedding and eventually married zoologist Professor Jonathan Baillie.

It is widely known that Prince William and Kate Middleton's romance flourished during their university years. Their connection notably intensified when William saw Kate at a charity fashion show, where she famously wore a see-through dress. This relationship has been depicted in various media, including the Netflix drama The Crown.

However, Robert Jobson's new book, Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, reveals that the couple actually met years earlier during their school days—William at Eton College and Kate at Marlborough College.
