Duchess of York Comments on Rumours Amid Pressure on Prince Andrew to Leave Windsor Estate
Sarah Ferguson has addressed the ongoing speculation about Prince Andrew being asked to vacate Royal Lodge in Windsor. Despite their 1996 divorce, Sarah and Prince Andrew have remained on good terms and continue to live together.
In an interview with Samara García Mendez from ¡HOLA! TV, Sarah responded to rumours that King Charles has instructed Andrew to leave the 98-acre estate, where he has resided for 20 years. According to The Telegraph, Andrew is determined to stay at Royal Lodge, citing the 75-year lease he signed in 2003, which still has 55 years remaining.
Speculation has also arisen that if Andrew were forced to move, he might relocate to Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. When asked about these reports, Sarah initially advised, "Don’t always believe what you read." After being pressed further, she admitted she wasn’t privy to discussions about Andrew’s future at Royal Lodge, adding, "I take every day as it comes."
In early 2023, King Charles reduced Andrew’s annual allowance, making it financially challenging for him to maintain the 30-room Royal Lodge. This decision followed a controversial 2019 BBC interview highlighting Andrew's connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite denying all allegations, Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre in February 2022.
Amid these developments, new rumours suggest that Prince William continues to hold a grudge against Andrew, reportedly due to his unwelcoming attitude when William first introduced Kate Middleton to the royal family. Royal reporter Richard Kay noted that William feels his father, King Charles, has been too lenient with Andrew and is advocating for his eviction from Royal Lodge.
