Royal Protocols Ensure Young Royals Learn Manners Before Joining Adults at the Table
In royal tradition, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis are seated at a separate table during special occasions, including Christmas, rather than dining with their parents. This practice continues until they reach their teenage years.
Without the distraction of iPads, Kate Middleton and Prince William rely on their children's good behavior while they dine apart. Former royal chef Darren McGrady, who served Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, revealed that the young royals' nannies are tasked with refining their taste buds.
McGrady shared that, as children, Prince William and Prince Harry were often bribed or had their vegetables hidden in their favorite dishes. He explained to Harper's Bazaar that royal children aren’t allowed to join the adults at the table until they’ve mastered polite conversation, which can sometimes take until their teenage years.
He noted, "The children always ate in the nursery until they were old enough to conduct themselves properly at the dining table."
Additionally, McGrady disclosed that Prince William and Harry often had to negotiate deals before eating their greens. Speaking to Hello, he highlighted that the royal nursery wasn’t just about educating young minds but also their palates. The nannies controlled the menu, ensuring the children ate balanced meals, which included healthy vegetables and introduced them to sophisticated dishes.
