Monarch and Queen to Attend Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Amidst Health Recovery
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit Australia and Samoa next month, marking the monarch’s attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October. The announcement comes shortly after Princess Catherine’s emotional health update video, providing a hopeful glimpse into the King’s continued recovery.
The royal couple’s visit is scheduled from 18th to 26th October 2024, starting in Australia before heading to Samoa for CHOGM. However, plans for a New Zealand stop were cancelled due to medical advice urging the King to focus on his health and avoid an extended itinerary.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace expressed gratitude for the understanding of both the Australian and New Zealand prime ministers, stating, "Their Majesties send their warmest thanks and good wishes to all parties for their continued support and understanding."
During their visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla will be welcomed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at Parliament House in Canberra. The King is also set to address a reception attended by key political and community leaders, celebrating Australians who have excelled in various fields such as health, arts, and sports.
