Princess Reportedly Stressed as Duchess of Edinburgh Takes on Increased Duties
Princess Catherine is reportedly feeling the pressure as Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh steps up her royal duties, achieving significant milestones in her role.
According to recent reports, the Duchess of Edinburgh has significantly increased her workload, particularly during Catherine's absence following her cancer diagnosis. The Court Circular, which records official royal engagements, reveals that Sophie has “doubled her workload in the past year” since King Charles and Catherine’s health announcement.
In September alone, Sophie undertook 37 engagements, compared to 18 during the same period last year. Her recent tour of Tanzania, where she promoted the Commonwealth mission and the prevention of neglected tropical diseases, garnered widespread attention. During the visit, King Charles expressed his admiration for Sophie’s dedication in a heartfelt message, praising her “passion and devoted efforts.”
The King’s letter read: “As patron of one of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness's members, Sightsavers, and knowing that the Duchess of Edinburgh is with you today in Tanzania, I particularly wanted you all to know how full of admiration and gratitude I am for your passion and devoted efforts in treating and preventing neglected tropical diseases, especially trachoma.”
The Duchess carried out 114 engagements last year, making her one of the hardest-working members of the Royal Family. As Sophie continues to increase her presence in royal duties, Catherine is reportedly feeling the strain, with insiders suggesting the additional attention on Sophie may be adding to the Princess's existing pressures.
