Duke and Duchess of Sussex Decline Queen's Invitations During Her Final Days

Elizabeth II Embraced Peace and Faith with 'No Regrets'

In the last years of Queen Elizabeth II’s life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly declined two invitations from the monarch, leading to speculation of a strained relationship. According to royal expert Robert Lacey, the late Queen extended an invitation in 2019 for the couple, along with their son Archie, to join the Royal Family at Balmoral for a summer holiday. They declined. Later that year, the Queen invited them to Sandringham for Christmas, but they chose instead to spend time in Canada.

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals and relocated to California with their children. Despite these decisions, Queen Elizabeth reportedly spent her final days in peace, reflecting on her life with no regrets. The Right Reverend Dr. Ian Greenshields, who visited her at Balmoral in 2022, confirmed that she embraced her faith and cherished memories of her father and Scotland.
