King Charles Grants New Role to Duchess Sophie Amid Catherine’s Absence

Monarch Praises Duchess of Edinburgh for Leading Key Mission in Tanzania

King Charles has honoured Duchess Sophie with a new role, commending her commitment during Princess Catherine’s absence from the public eye. Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, has recently taken on a prominent duty on behalf of the royal family, embarking on a solo visit to Tanzania to promote the monarch’s Commonwealth initiatives.

Her visit focuses on fostering UK-Africa relations and launching projects in health, agriculture, and women’s empowerment. During a recent reception, Sophie delivered a personal message from King Charles, who praised her dedication and efforts to combat neglected tropical diseases, particularly trachoma.

“As patron of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness’s member Sightsavers, and knowing that the Duchess of Edinburgh is with you today in Tanzania, I wanted you to know how full of admiration and gratitude I am for your passion and devoted efforts,” Charles wrote. He highlighted her ongoing work to advance inclusion and equality across the Commonwealth.

The King’s message, acknowledging Sophie’s contributions, underscores her growing influence and pivotal role in advancing royal missions in Catherine’s absence.
