King Charles Receives Caution Ahead of Exhausting Australia Tour

India Hicks voices concern over the demands of royal tours amid the King's health struggles.

King Charles’ goddaughter, India Hicks, has shared her concerns about the upcoming royal tour to Australia and Samoa, especially as the 75-year-old monarch continues to battle cancer. Speaking on The Royal Record podcast, Hicks warned of the physical toll such trips can take, particularly for someone in King Charles' position.

Reflecting on the intense scrutiny and constant pressure of royal tours, Hicks remarked, "You are on show all the time... every move, every smile, every word is judged and analysed. Imagine how exhausting that must be, especially for a man who's working very hard."

Despite these challenges, Hicks believes the tour is likely "very necessary," but noted the fatigue it will bring. When asked about her mother Lady Pamela Hicks’ potential advice for King Charles, India explained that the monarch, having spent years preparing for his role, is well-versed in the demands of such tours. Lady Pamela, a former close confidante of the late Queen Elizabeth II, had accompanied the previous monarch on Commonwealth tours in her youth.

As King Charles and Queen Camilla prepare for their first trip to Oceania since the Coronation, many will be watching closely to see how the King balances the demands of his duties with his ongoing health recovery.
