King Charles Sends Subtle Message to Harry During Historic Ceremony—Will He Notice?

Monarch’s Speech Hints at Reconciliation Amid Ongoing Family Rift

King Charles appeared to send a carefully worded message to his son Harry during a significant speech at a historic event in October 2023, amidst their ongoing family feud.

The King delivered his remarks at a dinner held at Mansion House as part of a ceremony for a new Sovereign, a tradition dating back to King William III in 1689. During the event, he was presented with The Pearl Sword—a gift from Elizabeth I to the City of London—which he returned to symbolise the authority of the Lord Mayor when the monarch is absent. This ceremony was last performed by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 1953 when she became the new Sovereign.

In his speech, King Charles emphasised the importance of responsibility and balanced communication, asking, “Do we pause, instinctively and unerringly, before speaking or acting to ensure we are affording equal weight to both sides of the balance? Our society would be a kinder and gentler place for it.”

Royal expert Angela Levin interpreted these words as a message to Harry, encouraging him to approach family matters with calmness and consideration. “It’s a message to Harry: ‘Be calm, don’t shout, don’t demand, but let’s keep things equal,’” Levin told GB News. However, she expressed scepticism that Harry would take heed, saying, “I don’t think Harry will pay any attention to it, unfortunately.”

Levin also commented on the Sussexes’ recent vacation to Canouan Island, criticising their lavish spending and use of private planes, which contrasts with their public stance on financial and environmental issues.

Harry has been estranged from the family since stepping back from royal duties and making a series of controversial statements. Although King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Catherine publicly acknowledged Harry’s 40th birthday in September 2024, some view this as a routine gesture following a decree by the late Queen Elizabeth II that milestone birthdays for non-working royals should be marked on social media.

While the King’s speech hinted at a desire for reconciliation, it remains unclear whether Harry will respond to his father’s appeal for a more measured and respectful approach to resolving their differences.
