Duchess Reflects on Early Royal Days: 'I Learned the Power I Have'
Meghan Markle is once again harnessing the influence of the "Meghan-effect," drawing inspiration from the classic style of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Sussex was recently seen carrying a Strathberry bag, reminiscent of a moment in 2017 when the same bag sold out within 11 minutes of her being photographed with it.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Meghan reflected on the significant impact her fashion choices have on brands. "When I know there’s global attention on what I’m wearing, I choose to support designers I have strong relationships with and spotlight emerging brands that deserve more recognition," she explained. "It’s one of the most powerful things I can do—just by wearing a piece of jewelry or an accessory."
Like Meghan, Princess Kate has long been celebrated for her powerful influence on fashion, leading to the "Kate-effect," which has significantly boosted the UK fashion industry, with some estimates placing its impact at £1 billion annually.
Meghan has similarly made a mark in the fashion world, endorsing brands like Strathberry and Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz. The Duchess has frequently worn Ortiz’s designs on high-profile occasions, including the Women of Vision awards in May 2023, and during international tours in Nigeria and Colombia, where Ortiz is based.
As Meghan continues to blend her unique style with a strategic focus on emerging designers, the "Meghan-effect" continues to rival the influence of her sister-in-law, Kate, solidifying her own legacy in the fashion world.
