Duke of Sussex Claims Unauthorized Statement Deepened Rift with Prince William
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s strained relations with the royal family show no signs of improving, as a recent revelation highlights a painful episode that reportedly left Meghan in tears and Harry furious.
According to the Harry & Meghan docuseries, the couple was deeply hurt by a Buckingham Palace statement released without Harry’s permission, which denied allegations that Prince William had bullied the Sussexes out of the royal family. The statement, issued in both Harry and William’s names, allegedly drove a wedge between the brothers.
“The saddest part was this wedge created between me and my brother, aligning him with the institution,” Harry explained, adding that he had not been consulted about the statement. He recalled his shock and dismay upon hearing about it, saying, “No one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that.”
After learning about the situation, Harry informed Meghan, who was devastated. “She burst into floods of tears because within four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother, but for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us,” he shared.
