Duchess of Sussex Surprises Fans with Quick Exit from Bookstore Opening
Meghan Markle surprised attendees as she made a swift departure from a glitzy event in Montecito to return home to her children, Archie and Lilibet. The Duchess of Sussex attended the grand opening of a local bookstore near her home but left the event earlier than expected.
According to reports in Town & Country, Meghan "made a dash for the door" after delivering remarks and listening from the front row. Apologetically, she explained her sudden exit by saying, "I’ve got to make dinner for the kids."
Meghan praised the evening’s program, calling it “incredible” as she left. The event marked the second night of celebrations for the bookstore, co-owned by literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and cosmetics mogul Victoria Jackson.
On the first night, Meghan was joined by Prince Harry at a friends and family gathering. When asked for a book recommendation, Harry pointed to his memoir, Spare. The couple, who relocated to Montecito after stepping down from royal duties in 2020, now reside there with their children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.
