Kate’s Brother Opens Up About Family’s Fears in New Memoir
In his memoir Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, James Middleton shares emotional moments from his battle with depression, including a tearful voicemail from his sister, Pippa Middleton, who feared for his life.
During a pivotal solo trip to the Lake District with his dogs, James recounts how his family became alarmed when they couldn't reach him. Upon regaining mobile signal, he was flooded with messages expressing deep concern.
"My family thought I had gone away to die," he wrote, acknowledging the panic he unknowingly caused. Among the messages was a tearful voicemail from Pippa, expressing her worry with an edge of reprimand: "James, we're all so worried about you. Where on earth are you?"
Reflecting on that time, James explains that while his family feared the worst, the trip had been a journey of self-discovery, not one of despair.
