Duke of York resists move to Frogmore Cottage, as King Charles pushes for change.
Tensions are reportedly rising between King Charles and his younger brother, Prince Andrew, over the Duke of York’s residence at the Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate. Andrew, who shares the home with his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, has been reluctant to accept King Charles' proposal to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The 75-year-old monarch has been pushing for the move as part of a broader plan to reduce expenses, with Andrew's private security costing an estimated £3 million annually following the withdrawal of his police protection. Frogmore Cottage, already extensively renovated, is situated within the secure perimeter of the Windsor Estate, making it a more cost-effective option for the Duke.
However, Andrew has consistently declined the offer, which is causing King Charles to run out of patience. Reports suggest the King has given his brother an ultimatum: either become financially independent and cover his own expenses or accept a "more suitable" residence, with Frogmore Cottage being the suggested alternative.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond weighed in on the situation, stating that it would be wise for Andrew to accept the King’s "sensible" proposal. Bond noted that Andrew's lifestyle at the 30-room Royal Lodge, which requires significant upkeep, is not a good look for the disgraced Duke. She emphasized that moving to Frogmore Cottage, already refurbished for £2.4 million, would be a generous and practical solution offered by King Charles.
Bond concluded, “It’s time for this grand old Duke of York to march down the hill to a property he can afford.”
