Prince Andrew’s Scandal Resurfaces with New TV Series, Adding Pressure on King Charles

A Very Royal Scandal Brings Duke of York’s Infamous Interview Back into the Spotlight

Prince Andrew’s notorious Newsnight interview has once again become a source of controversy for the Royal Family as it takes centre stage in the new Amazon Prime series A Very Royal Scandal. The three-part drama, which explores the events surrounding Andrew’s 2019 interview about his connections with Jeffrey Epstein, is already causing embarrassment for King Charles and the Royal Family.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond described Prince Andrew as a “problem that refuses to go away” and suggested that the series will likely cause further distress for the King. “I’m sure both the King and Andrew wish the interview had never happened, even though Andrew was initially pleased with it,” Bond told OK! magazine.

The series, which follows Netflix's Scoop, is garnering significant attention due to the involvement of Emily Maitlis, who conducted the infamous interview and served as a producer on the new show. “It promises to fill in quite a few blanks around the making of the interview and Andrew’s demeanour before, during, and after,” Bond noted.

Maitlis herself has spoken about the complexities of the story, acknowledging the impact not only on Andrew but also on those around him and the victims of Epstein. “It’s the loyalties to others and the women in his immediate periphery, as well as the Epstein victims, that are at the heart of this story,” she told LBC.

As the series continues to draw attention, royal insiders predict it will keep Prince Andrew’s scandal—and the challenges it poses for King Charles—in the spotlight, prolonging an issue that the Royal Family had hoped to move past.
