Prince Harry Eases Tensions with King Charles by Stepping Back from Spare Promotion

Royal Family Relieved as Duke of Sussex Skips Interviews for New Paperback Edition

When Prince Harry released Spare nearly two years ago, it sparked significant controversy, with the Duke of Sussex making several allegations about his family. Among them, he claimed that Prince William referred to Meghan Markle as "difficult," "rude," and "abrasive," and recounted an incident where William allegedly pushed him into a dog bowl. Harry also suggested that King Charles was envious of the Prince and Princess of Wales and had prevented Meghan from joining him in Scotland during the late Queen's final days.

After the memoir's release, Harry participated in multiple high-profile interviews, including one with ITV's Tom Bradby, where he clarified that he did not label the Royal Family as "racist" during his Oprah Winfrey interview.

However, the Royal Family can now breathe a sigh of relief as Harry has decided not to participate in further interviews to promote the upcoming paperback edition of Spare. According to a friend, while the paperback is part of his book deal, Harry is not contractually obliged to promote it, and the delay in its release is due to the continued strong sales of the hardback edition.

This decision has alleviated concerns that Harry might reveal more bombshells in an updated version of the memoir, especially given the significant events that have occurred since the book's initial release, including health diagnoses for both Charles and Kate, and the granting of prince and princess titles to Harry's children, Archie and Lilibet. The paperback version is set to be released on October 22 in the United States and October 24 in the UK.
