Prince Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family reportedly "collapsed" following the publication of his controversial memoir, Spare, which was released in January 2023. The book made a series of shocking claims involving members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla.
The memoir included allegations that Harry’s brother, Prince William, had criticised his wife, Meghan Markle, describing her as "difficult," "rude," and "abrasive." These revelations have significantly strained Harry’s relations with his family, with Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly feeling they can no longer trust him.
GB News’ Digital Royal Editor, Svar Nanan-Sen, discussed the fallout in an episode of The Royal Record. Nanan-Sen and GB News’ Royal Correspondent, Cameron Walker, reflected on how Harry, William, and Kate were once seen as a "dream team" during their 2016 Heads Together campaign for mental health awareness. However, their close bond has since dissipated.
Cameron noted, "It now appears that Harry and William are not on speaking terms. They haven’t communicated since the late Queen’s funeral, and there are no signs of any reconciliation talks."
The memoir also had a profound impact on Queen Camilla, with Harry referring to her as his "wicked stepmother" and the "other woman" in the book. These comments reportedly left Camilla “hurt,” and King Charles reportedly asked Harry to stop disclosing private family matters.
Svar Nanan-Sen added, “Spare is central to the fallout. King Charles was particularly upset by Harry’s remarks about Camilla, which contributed to the deterioration of relations within the family.”
There are no current indications of reconciliation between Harry and the royals, and the upcoming re-release of Spare in paperback will not include any new chapters, according to the publisher.
