Prince William Unveils Earthshot Prize Finalists, Each to Receive £1M for Environmental Innovation

Cape Town Set to Host Earthshot Prize Awards on November 6

Prince William has announced the 15 finalists for the prestigious £1 million Earthshot Prize, which he established in 2010 to highlight innovative solutions tackling the planet's most pressing environmental issues.

The shortlisted projects include an earthquake-resistant brick with 75% lower carbon emissions compared to traditional bricks, a team credited with rescuing the saiga antelope from the brink of extinction, and a company converting crop waste into a sustainable leather alternative.

“These finalists are pioneering solutions to some of our greatest environmental challenges,” Prince William stated. “Today, we celebrate their remarkable achievements, unwavering dedication, and the urgent optimism that drives our fourth class of Earthshot innovators.”

The winners will be announced at the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Cape Town on November 6. William commended the finalists, describing their passion as “a testament to what can be achieved when we harness the creativity, ingenuity, and optimism of communities around the world.”

The finalists were revealed at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit during Climate Week in New York, though Prince William was unable to attend due to engagements in the UK. Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, serving as a global advisor to Earthshot Prize winners, addressed the event in his place.
