Prince William’s New Royal Equerry Shares Surprising Similarities with the Future King

Princess of Wales Boosts Team with Queen’s Former Equerry as Private Secretary

Prince William has welcomed Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds as his new royal equerry, highlighting a unique connection between the two. Reynolds, seconded from the RAF, will succeed Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon, who is returning to the Royal Navy after four years in the role.

Both William and Reynolds share a love for aviation and sport similar beards, enhancing their rapport. William, a former helicopter pilot, has maintained strong ties with the RAF and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. During a recent visit to the Wales Air Ambulance headquarters, he expressed his passion for flying, saying, "I'd love to fly again. I could volunteer for a weekend to make a comeback."

The role of a royal equerry involves providing vital support and insight to royal family members, acting as their eyes and ears. Equerries are selected from the British Armed Forces, underscoring the royal family’s close ties to military service. Reynolds will support Prince William at Kensington Palace and during public engagements, strengthening this connection.

In another significant appointment, the Princess of Wales has named Lieutenant Colonel Tom White, former equerry to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as her private secretary. White, who served the Queen until her passing in September 2022, was the first Royal Marines commando to hold the equerry position and now brings his experience to Princess Kate’s team.

These appointments highlight the royal family's continued commitment to fostering strong relationships with the armed forces and ensuring experienced support for their official duties.
