Late monarch left sealed letters with personal messages for King Charles
Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at Balmoral on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, left behind two crucial letters, one of which was addressed to her son, King Charles III, according to royal expert Robert Hardman in his book Charles III: New King, New Court.
Hardman revealed that after the Queen’s death, a locked red box of paperwork was found by her bedside. Inside were two sealed letters—one for King Charles and the other for her private secretary, Sir Edward Young. While the contents of these letters remain private, they suggest that Queen Elizabeth acknowledged her final moments and passed important messages on to her eldest son.
Speculation surrounds the letters, with some historians believing the late Queen may have addressed the futures of key family members such as Prince Andrew and Harry. Alongside these letters, she also completed her final royal duty, nominating candidates for the Order of Merit, reflecting her dedication to service even in her final hours.
In a poignant note, Sir Edward documented the Queen’s peaceful passing, stating that she "slipped away in her sleep" from old age, experiencing no pain.
