Belgravia Property Fails to Address Duke of York’s Ongoing Residence Dilemma
Sarah Ferguson’s £4 million Mayfair property has sparked speculation about a potential move for her and Prince Andrew from Royal Lodge, as their dispute with King Charles continues. However, a royal commentator has pointed out that the centrally located residence in Belgravia fails to resolve the pressing security issues surrounding the Duke of York.
Despite the property’s proximity to the homes of their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, it remains vacant, leading to questions about its viability as a new home for the couple. Royal commentator Gareth Russell, speaking to GB News, explained that while the Duchess of York could live comfortably at the Mayfair home, the security requirements for Prince Andrew make it an impractical choice.
“Prince Andrew, being a brother of the monarch and a highly controversial public figure, would require substantial security if he were to move to a private residence in one of the busiest cities in the world,” Russell noted. “This level of security either would need to be funded by Andrew himself, which he likely cannot sustain, or by the taxpayer—an option that would be deeply unpopular.”
Russell suggested that the most logical solution would be for Andrew to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, the former UK residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. “Frogmore is within the Windsor security court, offering a level of protection that wouldn’t impose additional costs on the monarchy or the public,” he added.
As Prince Andrew's residence dilemma continues, it appears that Sarah Ferguson’s Mayfair home is unlikely to provide the secure solution needed for his unique situation.
