Royal Experts Defend York Sisters as They Face Backlash Over Their Father's Controversies
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have faced significant challenges in recent years due to their father, Prince Andrew, and the scandals surrounding him, according to royal commentators. Following Prince Andrew's controversial Newsnight interview and his connection to convicted s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Duke of York stepped down from royal duties, giving up his HRH titles in the process.
The fallout from Andrew’s association with Epstein has intensified, especially with the release of the drama A Very Royal Scandal on Amazon and Netflix's Scoop, which revisit the infamous interview. These portrayals have kept the issue in the spotlight, further complicating the lives of Beatrice and Eugenie.
Adding to the Duke of York's struggles, he is reportedly in a dispute with King Charles over his residence, Royal Lodge. The King is said to be encouraging Andrew to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, although Andrew holds a lease on Royal Lodge until 2078.
Recently, pop singer James Blunt voiced his support for the York sisters, highlighting the unfair treatment they have endured due to their father's actions. Royal expert Russell Myers echoed this sentiment, noting that while Beatrice and Eugenie come from a privileged background, they have faced undue criticism because of their father's controversies. Blunt reportedly told journalist Emily Maitlis that the sisters have had a "rough ride" and do not deserve to be held accountable for their father's mistakes.
Amid the public scrutiny, Beatrice, 36, recently announced her second pregnancy with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. This new addition will be 11th in line to the throne, moving Eugenie, 34, down to 12th.
