Buckingham Palace Honours Duchess Sophie for Major Milestone in Royal Service

Duchess Recognised for Championing Women’s Rights During Historic Visit to Chad

Duchess Sophie has reached a significant milestone as an active royal family member, with Buckingham Palace paying tribute to her on October 14 for her dedication to championing women’s rights.

The Palace highlighted Sophie’s historic visit to Chad, where she became the first member of the Royal Family to visit the country. As part of her global advocacy, Sophie’s visit focused on the impact of the Sudan conflict on women and girls, aiming to draw attention to the deteriorating situation in the region.

In a statement, the Palace praised her work as a global champion of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, as well as her support for the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI). The Duchess’s engagements in Chad included visits to refugee registration points, meetings with survivors of sexual violence at Adré District Hospital, and discussions with local women’s rights organisations.

The Palace also expressed gratitude for the volunteers working in Chad, highlighting their vital contributions. Since King Charles and Catherine’s recent health diagnoses, Duchess Sophie has taken on an increasingly prominent role as a working royal.
