Buckingham Palace Updates on King Charles' Samoa Tour as Monarch Opens 'King's Garden'

New Garden Inauguration Follows King’s Address on Colonial Legacy at Commonwealth Summit

Buckingham Palace shared an uplifting update as King Charles concluded his tour of Samoa, following a significant address at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The palace posted rare photos of the smiling monarch inaugurating the "King’s Garden," a special new addition to the island.

“The King’s Garden is officially open!” the message announced, along with a carousel of images. The garden, designed in the shape of a crown, features native king ferns, English roses, and teuila (red ginger), Samoa’s national flower. The site is located near a designated area where Commonwealth leaders can plant trees to offset the carbon emissions from their travel to the CHOGM 2024.

This update came after King Charles addressed a sensitive issue during the summit, acknowledging calls for reparations and reflecting on the legacy of British colonialism. “Our cohesion requires that we acknowledge where we have come from,” he stated in his speech. “It is vital therefore that we understand our history, to guide us to make the right choices in the future.”

The remarks and garden dedication highlighted the King’s efforts to foster unity and address historical grievances, capping off his visit to the Pacific Island nation on a hopeful note.
