Excited Dog Steals the Show During Prince William’s Duchy College Visit

Playful Labrador welcomes Duke of Cornwall during his tour in Cornwall.

Prince William’s visit to Duchy College in Callington, Cornwall, took an unexpected turn when an energetic Labrador named River enthusiastically greeted him. The lively dog attempted to jump on the Prince of Wales as he greeted her handler, sparking laughter and light-heartedness during the visit.

William, in good spirits, brushed off the playful encounter and continued his tour of the college, where he met with students and staff. Many students were thrilled to meet the future king, seizing the opportunity to take photos and selfies with him.

Holly Rushton, the animal management program manager at the college, highlighted the importance of dogs like River in the curriculum, helping students study animal behavior and management. Prince William’s visit also included learning about the variety of courses offered at Duchy College, from agriculture to equine science and horticulture.

The college, founded on land leased by the Duchy of Cornwall in 1984, maintains a deep connection with the royal estate. Prince William’s visit added a fun twist to a busy week, which also saw him participate in an NFL event, where he showcased his athletic side by joining in football drills.
