Princess of Wales embraces new style influences amid rumours of past misunderstandings with Meghan Markle
Kate Middleton is drawing attention with her latest fashion choices, seemingly taking inspiration from her sister-in-law Meghan Markle, despite the pair’s well-documented differences. The Princess of Wales, gradually resuming her royal duties following her cancer treatment, has been noted for making bold wardrobe statements, a strategy she has often employed during significant moments.
In a recent video, released in early September to mark a milestone in her recovery, fashion experts pointed out a striking similarity between Kate’s outfit and one worn by Meghan during her tour of Colombia with Harry in August. Meghan had donned a navy top and trousers by Veronica Beard, while Kate appeared in a bohemian-style midi dress from the same designer just weeks later.
Fashion designer Peter Martinez remarked on the Princess’s evolving wardrobe, stating: “Kate’s recent experiments with designers like Veronica Beard and Safiyaa show her willingness to embrace new styles as she navigates her royal role and personal journey.”
Tension surrounding fashion is not new between the two royals. In his memoir Spare, Harry hinted at an early misunderstanding between Kate and Meghan, suggesting that Kate might have thought Meghan was seeking her fashion contacts—an assumption that caused friction in their relationship.
With Sarah Burton, the designer of Kate’s iconic Alexander McQueen wedding dress, recently leaving the label for Givenchy—a brand Meghan frequently wears—some speculate that Kate’s style may continue to evolve in alignment with designers also favoured by her sister-in-law.
