King Charles Celebrates Major Milestone in Australia Amid Protests

Monarch awarded new military titles during first Australian tour as King

King Charles III has reached a significant milestone during his first visit to Australia as monarch, receiving prestigious military titles despite facing backlash from anti-monarchy groups. The 75-year-old monarch appeared in good spirits as he was appointed to the Honorary Ranks of Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Australian Navy, Field Marshal of the Australian Army, and Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force.

These new titles reflect King Charles’s longstanding connection with the Australian Defence Force, which dates back to 1977 when he was first named Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. The recognition comes amid his first official tour of Australia since ascending the throne in 2022, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral David Johnston, highlighted the importance of the appointments, stating they symbolise the cherished relationship between Australia and the Crown. Despite anti-monarchy protests, Australians continue to show pride in their connection to the King and the royal family's commitment to service.

"Australians share His Majesty’s pride in the ADF, its sailors, soldiers, aviators, and the families who support them," said Ms Mostyn, reflecting the enduring bond between the nation and its sovereign.
