Monarch’s sense of duty remains unwavering despite cancer diagnosis, close confidante reveals
A rarely seen member of the royal family has voiced her strong support for King Charles, backing him to remain on the throne despite ongoing calls for him to step down amid his health challenges. Sophie Winkleman, married to Lord Frederick Windsor, praised the 75-year-old monarch for his unwavering sense of duty during a difficult period in his life.
“Duty and service run through him like a stick of rock,” Sophie said in a recent interview. She expressed concern that Charles does not allow himself to rest, even as he battles cancer. “He’s a hugely inspirational man,” she added, lauding the King’s resilience and commitment.
King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, is scheduled to travel to Australia and Samoa with Queen Camilla later this month.
Sophie, who has been known as Lady Frederick Windsor since her 2009 marriage into the royal family, also praised the working royals for enduring life under constant scrutiny, calling many of them trusted friends. Additionally, she spoke highly of Catherine, acknowledging her bravery and strength.
Royal historian David Starkey recently noted that abdication is rare in the monarchy, explaining that previous instances occurred due to personal crises rather than health issues.
