Monarch shares heartfelt message as he and Queen Camilla mourn former First Minister’s passing
King Charles has shared a personal message expressing sorrow over the sudden death of Scotland’s former First Minister, Alex Salmond, who passed away at the age of 69, reportedly from a suspected heart attack. The monarch and Queen Camilla conveyed their condolences through a statement released by Buckingham Palace.
In his message, King Charles said, "My wife and I are greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of Alex Salmond. His devotion to Scotland drove his decades of public service. We extend our deep condolences to his family and loved ones at this time."
The King's emotional message comes just days before his planned foreign visit to Australia and Samoa, where he and Queen Camilla will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from October 18 to October 26.
