Monarch Adjusts Schedule, Pausing Treatment for Royal Tour of Australia and Samoa
King Charles will be missing a major event this year due to his ongoing cancer treatment. The monarch, known for his lifelong environmental advocacy, will not attend the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), following a powerful speech he delivered at last year's event.
As the King prepares for a State Visit to Australia and Samoa next week alongside Queen Camilla, his medical team has permitted a temporary pause in his treatment for the 11-day tour. He will, however, be accompanied by a doctor during the trip, as is customary for a head of state.
This tour marks King Charles’ first visit to these countries since ascending to the throne and his first international travel following his cancer diagnosis. Royal insiders revealed that the UK government chose not to request the King’s presence at this year’s COP event, allowing him to focus on his health and other royal obligations.
Although King Charles will not attend the conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, he extended a warm welcome to Mukhtar Babayev, COP29's president-designate, during a meeting at Clarence House in July.
