King Charles Launches Key Initiative to Support Commonwealth's Small Island Nations

Monarch Advances Climate Action and Education in New Fellowship Programme

During his six-day tour in Australia, King Charles announced a pivotal decision as head of the Commonwealth, taking further steps to address climate challenges. The monarch, a long-time advocate for climate action, revealed a new programme aimed at helping the small island states within the Commonwealth.

The King has made a substantial donation to fund the King's Commonwealth Fellowship Programme, organised by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). This academic initiative seeks to enhance climate resilience by building capacity in education, health, and engineering within these vulnerable nations.

In his statement, King Charles highlighted the importance of education in fostering unity and tackling global challenges, expressing hope that this new fellowship will promote knowledge-sharing across the Commonwealth. The initiative targets the 25 small island nations, including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa, with a focus on creating resilient public services and skilled communities.
