Monarch Seeks to Transform Part of Iconic Estate into a Wedding Venue as Sussexes Reportedly Buy New Property in Portugal
King Charles III has made a surprising decision regarding his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite home, Balmoral Estate, amidst ongoing speculation about Prince Harry’s return to the UK. The iconic royal residence, where the Queen spent her final days, may soon undergo a significant transformation.
Reports indicate that the 75-year-old monarch, currently on a tour in Samoa, has sought planning approval to convert part of the historic estate into a wedding venue. The proposal, submitted to Aberdeenshire Council, seeks permission to repurpose the Queen's Building for "weddings, dinners, meetings, and other events." The plans also ensure that any music played would be kept at a "low level" to avoid disturbance.
This development comes amid reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have purchased a new property near Princess Eugenie’s home in Portugal, fueling speculation about their future ties to the UK.
Balmoral, situated on the banks of the River Dee, has long been a cherished royal retreat, boasting 52 bedrooms and numerous reception rooms. The estate has been in the royal family since 1852, when it was purchased by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, with the existing castle built to replace the original house, which was deemed too small.
By potentially opening Balmoral to the public for royal-style weddings, King Charles continues to shape the future of the estate, blending tradition with modernity while honouring his mother’s legacy.
