Monarch Expresses Grief Over Nepal Tragedy After Duke of Sussex Attends WellChild Awards

King Charles has penned a heartfelt message expressing his sorrow over the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, just days after his son, Prince Harry, left the UK following a brief visit for the WellChild Awards.

In his statement, issued on Thursday, the King expressed his deep sadness at the natural disasters that struck Nepal, a country with strong ties to the UK, particularly through the Gurkhas and their significant contribution to the British Army. "My wife and I were heartbroken to see the devastating effects of flooding and landslides in Nepal over the weekend," Charles began.

He conveyed the UK’s solidarity with the people of Nepal, offering condolences to those affected and reaffirming Britain’s readiness to assist the country during this challenging time. "Together with the British public, we send our deepest condolences to those who have so tragically lost their loved ones," he said, adding that he hopes families will still be able to unite as Nepal prepares for important festivals, despite the hardship.

This message comes as Prince Harry continues his engagements in Lesotho, South Africa, where he is promoting the work of his charity, Sentebale, which supports children and young adults affected by HIV/AIDS. Harry’s brief visit to the UK earlier in the week marked his attendance at the WellChild Awards, an organisation he has supported for 16 years.

Prince Harry stepped down from his role as a senior working royal in 2020 alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, but continues to champion various charitable causes.
