Meghan Markle draws parallels in online abuse with Kate, says she’s 'far from alone'

Duchess of Sussex reflects on her experiences with bullying and promotes digital safety for youth

Meghan Markle recently opened up about her experiences with online abuse, asserting that she is "far from alone" in facing such challenges. During an engagement with Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara on October 2, Meghan described herself as "one of the most bullied people in the world," and acknowledged the similar struggles faced by other royals, such as Sarah Ferguson and Catherine.

At the event, which focused on empowering young girls to have a healthy relationship with technology, Meghan participated in a discussion about the emotional impacts of online bullying. The Duchess highlighted her own experiences, particularly during her pregnancies and beyond.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond supported Meghan and Harry’s efforts to create a safer digital world, especially for younger generations, stating, "No one should have to endure the kind of abuse Meghan faced." However, she also emphasised that Meghan is not alone, noting that other members of the royal family have endured similar challenges.

Meghan’s comment about being one of the most bullied individuals came as she promoted the organisation’s new digital wellness initiative, Social Media U. Following the visit, Larissa May, founder of #HalfTheStory, shared more insights into the Duchess’ discussion, revealing how the event allowed participants to reflect on the emotional effects of bullying.
