Police Officer Charged Following Fatal Collision Involving Duchess of Edinburgh’s Escort

Officer faces charges of causing death by careless driving in tragic incident

A police officer assigned to the Duchess of Edinburgh’s security team has been charged with causing death by careless driving after the tragic death of 81-year-old Helen Holland, who was struck by a motorcycle from the royal escort. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that Christopher Harrison, 67, has been charged following a detailed review by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The collision occurred on May 10, 2023, in Earl’s Court, west London. Holland sustained severe injuries and passed away two weeks later. Her family shared their grief, describing her as a beloved grandmother, gardener, and royal supporter.

Harrison is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on November 6. The CPS has reminded the public of the need for a fair trial, urging restraint in online commentary that could influence the proceedings.
